I am not sure how I feel about this. Although the third entry in the Tobey Maguire series was rather week, they all were very enjoyable, and they could have kept the series going. They could have changed the actor playing Spidey and made the other changes without having to reboot the series and show the origin story again.
is rebooted and retold,
but is it needed?
The changes with the reboot have a new cast, including Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Sally Field and Martin Sheen as Peter’s Aunt and Uncle. Mark Webb (what a name) takes over as director, replacing Sam Raimi who directed the first three. Another difference is the inclusion of mechanical web shooters, rather than the web being produced directly from Spiderman’s wrist. You can catch a glimse of the new web shooters briefly in the trailer.
The trailer makes a foreboding reference to Peter’s parents; likely the cause of their death will play a part in this film. Buzz on the internet mention that the point-of-view action sequences bear a striking resemblence to the video game Mirror’s Edge. The Amazing Spiderman will be swinging into theaters in early July, just in time for Independence Day.
